The Washington Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Monday, April 27 at 7:00. Following the short business meeting, John Stromberger will talk about the Washington Cannery which served as a POW camp during WWII. John will cover the history of the Cannery from the decisions that led to it being built in Washington in the first place, the POW encampment there, the one German prisoner who escaped the camp, as well as businesses that have called 300 W. Holland Street home since the cannery moved to Morton. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Take a walk through Washington Park and enjoy a story as you stroll! Beginning at the parking lot located on the Lincoln Grade School side of Washington Park, follow the sidewalk to read a story. This two-month session’s book is Love Monster by Rachel Bright.
