On Wednesday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m., a short walk will be held in Washington Park, starting by the tennis courts. The Washington Police Department, Washington Fire Department, and Northern Tazewell Fire Departments, as well as other organizations and citizens will be participating to honor those that were lost on this sad day in our history.
The short walk will be led by the Washington High School Cheerleaders to the Memorial Helicopter, where Washington Middle School drummers will greet the walkers. A short ceremony with local dignitaries will be led by Mayor Gary Manier.
There ceremony will close to the tune of "Taps", in memory of those that were lost on that tragic day, 12 years ago.
The Citizens Police Academy Alumni and the Washington High School Cheerleaders ask you to join them for this very special event.
Bicentennial History Exhibit – On display July 13th – August 24th, 2025 at Five Points Washington
Bicentennial and historical images will be exhibited by the Washington Historical Society on the Community Gallery Wall at Five Points Washington. The carefully curated photographs selected for this exhibit give a unique insight into events, people, and places from Washington’s past. The selected photographs span the last 150 years of Washington’s history and feature community events and everyday life in Washington.

Take a walk through Washington Park and enjoy a story as you stroll! Beginning at the parking lot located on the Lincoln Grade School side of Washington Park, follow the sidewalk to read a story. This two-month session’s book is Señorita Mariposa By Ben Gundersheimer and will be displayed through Tuesday, September 30th.
