The Washington Police Department will be conducting the 20th session of the Washington Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy Class. The class will begin on April 8th and run through June 24th. The class will be held on Tuesday Nights from 6:30-9:00 p.m. The 12-week program was designed to give Washington residents and surrounding communities an inside look at how the men and women of their police departments provide services to the community. The class will provide information, as well as hands-on approach to different aspects of being a law enforcement officer in today's society.
Topics such as the hiring and testing process, self-defense, traffic stops, and crime scene investigations are just a few of the topics which will be covered. The participants will also be given a chance to ride along with a police officer during a morning or afternoon shift.
To participate, interested individuals must complete an academy application form and return it to the Washington Police Department by April 4th. A background check will be completed on each applicant. Individuals who are selected to participate in the class will be contacted by phone or letter prior to the April 8 start date. The location of the class is yet to be determined, but participating individuals will be advised of the location in their acceptance letter.
