Job Description
The Washington Chamber of Commerce (WCOC) serves and represents a diverse group of 200+ businesses and non-profit organizations in and around Washington, Illinois. Washington is a community of 15,000 residents, that experience a rapid population growth between the 2000 and 2010 censuses. It has a strong reputation as a vibrant community, offering a high quality of life, supported by excellent schools, safe neighborhoods, diverse parks and recreation offerings and a resident population motivated by community involvement and volunteerism. The Chamber of Commerce promotes thriving businesses in leading a healthy community.
The WCOC is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors with nine standing committees. The Chamber of Commerce functions through he working committees of the organization. The board meets monthly, on the third Thursday. The WCOC's budget is $225,000 per year.

The Washington Chamber of Commerce seeks a dynamic membership manager whose forward-looking thoughtful, and collaborative to help fulfill the organizational mission and help advance the Chamber of Commerce, its members and the community. Responsible for handling Chamber membership and assist with Chamber communication.
Compensation will be a range of $12-14/hour based on qualifications and experience, as well as a commission structure based on the sale of membership packages. The position requires approximately 25 hours per week.

Reporting Relationship.
The Membership Manager reports to the Director and works closely with other staff members and the 200+ members of the chamber.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities.
  • Achieve challenging membership revenue targets through successful sales and retention activities
  • Develop and implement strategies designed to meet membership growth and retention goals
  • Direct and implement the deliver of Chamber sponsored programs
  • Manage member benefits including regular review of existing programs
  • Provide monthly sales and retention report
  • Maintain accurate member information (database updates, changes and cancellations)
  • Assist with the coordination of ribbon cutting ceremonies for new businesses
  • Ensure services are provided to members to meet their needs
  • Identify and develop programs to attract and retain members
  • Attend monthly Business After Hours and other meetings as designated by the Director
  • Cultivate relationships in order to upgrade current investment levels with members to higher levels of membership
  • Serve as staff liaison to various sales based volunteer committees including Chamber Ambassadors
  • Actively support and participate in Chamber events and programs
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge of all Chamber programs, services, initiatives and activities
  • Establish four points of contact to each member during the calendar year
Administrative Responsibilities.
  • Represent the Chamber at community and governmental events and programs
  • Participate in traditional office responsibilities when necessary
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned
  • It is required that, at a minimum, the Membership Manager have two years of experience in a business related field
  • Must present a professional and positive image to members and the greater community through appropriate appearance, grooming, demeanor, and comments
  • Bachelor's degree and/or Chamber experience preferred. Recent college graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Excellent professional communication skill, including written and oral communication skills, strong listening skills, and the ability to make presentations to groups
  • Be able to work collaboratively and positively with others of diverse backgrounds, opinions and needs
  • Be computer literate and able to use software functions such as e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets, ability to use Publisher is preferred
